What is Hospice?
Hospice is a complete system of care and support available to persons facing the end of life and their loved ones. It is focused on providing comfort, symptom alleviation and specialized end-of-life services in a supportive and dignified environment—all with the goal of allowing the patient and family the highest quality of life possible, for as long as possible.
When cure is no longer an option, Hospice allows patients to receive care in the comfort of their residence—wherever that may be. The Hospice team, including the patient’s personal physician, works with the patient and family to tailor a plan of care focused on each person’s individual needs and teaches caregivers what to expect related to the course of the illness.
